A fixed matrix block (14) supports the edge of the metal sheet in association with two movable heads which operate in synchronism. A first head (2) bends the edge flange of the sheet to an acute angle relative to the sheet, before a second head (3) bends the flange fully back against the surface of the sheet. A pair of stop members (80,81) cooperate with stop surfaces on the respective heads to restrict their action on the sheet to the required amount. The two heads are driven by a common shaft (90) which oscillates in rotation to drive the shafts via a pair of crank shafts (91,92) and connecting links. The linkage is such that a single to-and-fro oscillation of the shaft produces a single pair of bending actions of the heads.
