Method for fabricating aluminium@ alloy components e.g. brake drums, disk brakes, cylinder blocks

Method for the fabrication of aluminium alloy component incorporating one or more rubbing surfaces, for use in automobiles. The method comprises the following steps, a) moulding a base component using a hypoeutectic aluminium alloy, b) welding onto base component one or more thin layers of an abrasion resistant material to form the rubbing surfaces, each layer being made up of a material chosen from the group comprising the alloys with a silicon content of between about 13 and 23% and aluminium matrix composites and with non-metallic reinforcing particles. A brake drum, a disk brake and a cylinder block for use in automobile vehicles produced by this method and incorporating one or more rubbing surfaces are also claimed.
