An expanded polystyrene body is made by pre-expanding granules of polystyrene containing blowing agent to a density of approximately ¢ pound per cubic foot by applying steam thereto in a vertically unconfined expansion space at a temperature above 212‹ F., filling a closed mould chamber with the expanded particles, compressing the particles by reducing the volume of the mould chamber, opening the mould chamber and removing the foamed body. |
