Aspartic acid oligomers and their derivs. of formula R<1>-NH-A-(CO-X)2 (I) are new; in which R<1> = H or an organic gp.; A = -CH(CH2-)-; X = -NH-A(CO-Y)2; Y = X or -O-R<2>; and R<2> = H, an alkali metal cation or a protective gp. R<3>. Also claimed is a detergent contg. (I; R<2> = H or an alkali metal cation). Pref. R<2> = H or an alkali metal cation.
