The switch has an operating head (2) movable in a socket. Operation of the head (2) triggers a switching process between at least one pair of contact elements each including a contact piece and a corresponding contact spring. The latter is moved on actuation of the switch head (2). A switch cam (10) stepped in several segments (16,17,18) is rotatably mounted about an axis running perpendicular to the stroke direction of the switch head (2), by means of at least two bearing regions (15,19). At least a first segment (16) of the stepped cam (10) has first pins (16a,b) extending respectively parallel and antiparallel to a first radial direction of the cam. It also has two flat regions (16c,d) in a second perpendicular radial direction. This leads to an alternating application of flat regions (16c,16d,17c,17d) and extending pins (16a,b;17a,b) into a first or second segment (16,17) of the switch cam (10) at the freely movable ends of the contact springs (11,12). The latter are thus pressed to corresponding sprung contact pieces (5,7) or moved away from them. This thus opens and closes electric contacts between the contact springs (11,12) and the contact pieces (5,7)
