A method of measuring marks, in particular position measurement of registration marks 3, 4 on printed sheets 1, is carried out with marks disposed in discrete measuring zones and displaced by 90{ relative to one another. Measurement of these marks is performed with automatic rotation of measuring means through 90{. A preferential measurement position is thereby given in the same sense for each registration mark. The measuring means can be displaced by the lateral spacing of the two registration marks simultaneously with the rotation.
