MOLDABLE RESIN COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain a moldable resin compsn. which solves the conventional problems due to styrene monomer and has a practically sufficient heat resistance and improved physical properties and handleability by incorporating a specific allyl polyester into the compsn. CONSTITUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by thermally mixing 5-95wt.% high- molecular weight unsatd. polyester having a mol.wt. of 5,000 or higher and 95-5wt.% allyl polyester having at least two allyl polyester groups in the molecule and a number average mol.wt. of 300 or higher. The unsatd. polyester is obtd. by esterifying anα,β-unsatd. polybasic acid or its anhydride with a polyhydric alcohol in an inert gas stream at 160-230 deg.C to give a hydroxypolyester having an acid value of 15 or lower and a mol.wt. of 500 or higher and subjecting the hydroxypolyester to deglycolation in the presence of 0.1-0.3wt.% (based on the hydroxypolyester) organotitanium catalyst under a reduced pressure. The allyl polyester is obtd. by properly selecting a lower alcohol ester of a polybasic acid, a polyhydric alcohol, and the ratio of the ester to the alcohol and subjecting them to a lower-alcohol removal reaction at 120-250 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst.
