PURPOSE: To suppress the generation of the realistic sense of reckless driving and sense of sudden deceleration constantly taking into consideration the change in the actual vehicle speed by providing a guard means to achieve the guard so that the changed target vehicle speed is the target value in the prescribed range. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle seed detecting means P1 detects the actual vehicle speed of a vehicle, while a vehicle speed setting means P2 sets the target vehicle speed of the constant speed traveling. A control means P3 controls a speed control mechanism P4 so that the actual vehicle speed approaches the target vehicle speed based on the difference between the actual vehicle speed and the target vehicle speed. An acceleration switch P5 increases the target vehicle speed in the constant traveling, while a deceleration switch P6 decreases the target vehicle speed. A changed target vehicle speed setting means 7 operates either of the switches P5, P6 to set the changed target vehicle speed, while a guard means P8 achieves the guard so that the set changed target vehicle speed is the target value in the prescribed range. Generation of the sense of reckless driving and sudden deceleration can be excellently suppressed even when the changed target vehicle speed with large difference is set. |
