The apparatus is for cleaning a reel of exposed cine film which has aged and is no longer in clean condition. It has a housing (20) with a vertical mounting board (3) containing a freely pivoted turntable (10) for the film (12) which is braked to ensure appropriate tension during unwinding. Film transport is via a powered (71) capstan (70) and a variable speed motor (61) driving the take-up spool (60) such that film tension is automatically held constant irrespective of changing spool diameters. Cleaning occurs at a first station (30) wherein electrostatic adhesion is nullified by hv ionisation (31,32) with discharged dust etc. removed by the brushes (33,34) and a second cleaning employs the adhesive-coated pick-up rollers (41,42). |
