Engine mounting for vehicle - incorporates elastic support about torque roll axis and stiffened support for static force

The engine and transmission hare supported on two main mountings (6,7) which define the torque roll axis and can swing about this axis with soft damping. The static force (moment) due to the reaction from the wheels is absorbed by a stiffer spring force for stability. The softer damping isolates the vehicle from engine vibrations e.g. when idling. The layout of the damping depends on the transmission orientation, with the torque roll axis at different alignments to the static axis for different drive unit orientations. The combination of the two support systems provides a quiet running vehicle. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved comfort e.g. for diesel vehicles.
