A carbon brush (10) is proposed which has a box-shaped or cylindrical geometry with side or end surfaces in which a current-carrying (live) braided cable (12) is arranged as well as an indicating braided cable (28) which extends in the longitudinal direction of the carbon brush. The indicating braided cable is arranged and fixed in position by means of a section (26) of a recess (30), such as a hole, which preferably runs in the longitudinal direction of the carbon brush, in order to produce a signal to indicate a specific carbon brush wear level, by interacting with a commutator or slipring. In order to ensure that the indicating braided cable is fixed in position unambiguously but without being stressed, it is surrounded by a sleeve (32) having a circumferential edge (34) which, for its part, rests against a step (36) on the recess. <IMAGE> |
