PURPOSE: To obtain a solid lubricant which can be used in liquid metallic sodium at elevated temperature or in high vacuum conditions, its production process and self-lubricant sliding member. CONSTITUTION: Sodium chromite (NaCrO2 ) as a main component of this solid lubricant, is produced by mixing a sodium carbonate powder with chromium oxide and heating the mixture in an atmosphere of 99.999%-purity argon gas at 1,000 deg.C in an electric furnace and has 0.1-1.0μm crystalline particle sizes. In this hexagonal crystalline system where sodium, chromium and oxygen atoms are alternately arranged in laminae, the weak bond parts between laminae of individual elements constituting sodium chromite readily slide by friction. |
