FIELD: biochemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to producing β--amyloid peptide in cellular culture that is inhibited in vivo by addition of inhibitor of aspartylproteases, in part, inhibitors of cathepsin D. Acceptable inhibitors of aspartylproteases can be selected by two-stage analysis where firstly tested compounds were selected according their capability to inhibit aspartylprotease activity in cell-free system in vitro. Then active compounds were tested in cellular culture by their capability to inhibit β--amyloid peptide producing and the latters can be included in composition of pharmaceutical preparations. EFFECT: improved method of identification.
