A thread store has a drum from which the thread (F) is drawn overhead and, on the drum end face, braking means comprising ring shapes which extend the way the thread runs off and push against a rigid inner conical, i.e. counter braking, surface of the case. The ring shaped braking means are thin cylindrical curved strips (6) where their rims (7), pointing the way the drum axis points, bear against the counter surface in a scissor-like manner. Also claimed is the thread brake for a thread store as above having a drum top which is put on the drum and is a carriage for at least one braking strip as described.
