A vehicle where either the front (1) or the rear (2) wheels are driven by the engine(3) and the other pair driven by an electric motor (5) has a device (17) to measure the friction coefft of the road surface and means (12) to control the electric motor when the car starts if friction coefft is less than a preset value. Under these conditions the motor output torque is limited to a preset value corresp to the measured coefft. The value is chosen so prevent slip of the driven wheels on the road surface.
