A spiral covering spindle for a textile, esp. a spiral cover spinning, machine has an inner non-rotating channel (1) supported against a case (7) for guiding a core thread, and a hollow shaft (2) surrounding the channel for holding and driving (5a) the carrier (5) of a cover thread to be laid around the core thread. A tube (9) is formed to surround the shaft at least partly and supported it by one or more rotating bearings (13, 14). Pref. the bearings are ball bearings running in races machined into the case wall. The channel has a hard axial bearing in the case at one end and a soft bearing at the other, e.g. it is clamped firmly and stiffly at one end while at the other there is space between it and the shaft. It can have a floating bearing against the case or the hollow shaft.
