The method involves checking the transmission frequencies of a base station for interference with the reception frequencies through mutual intermodulation products of the transmission frequencies. The frequencies and relative amplitudes of the intermodulation products of a predetermined order are calculated for the respective combinations of the transmission frequencies of the base station. The respective combination of the transmission frequencies is classified as critical, if the frequency of at least one intermodulation product remains below a predetermined frequency spacing from a reception frequency, and if the relative amplitude exceeds this intermodulation product for a predetermined value.
