An electrochemical cell (10), typically to a metal-air cell of the button-type, comprising an anode can (24) containing electrochemically active material (26), a cathode can (44) assembled to the anode can (24) and a seal (60) electrically insulating the two cans. The cathode can is made from a three layer diffusion annealed and tempered metal strip (114), the core layer (116) being steel, and the external layers being nickel (118); the cathode can has a wall thickness of 0.110 to 0.155mm.
