The instrument comprises a stylet (58), the body (28), a connector (26) and an electrode (14). The body (28) has a handle (68), a grip (42) for manoeuvring, an entry (56) for the stylet (58) and a coupling for the spring sheathed connector (12). The electrode (14) houses a mechanical screw with a left handed thread and dead point provision (22) also a right handed biological screw (18). The biological screw is advanced or retracted by relative motion between the electrode and the mechanical screw controlled by body and stylet (28,58).
