PURPOSE: To provide a thermal transfer sheet having a suitability for a multi- gradation transfer system, an ideal dot shape, a good gradation reproducibility, and a suitability for OHP application and imparting a high-transparency image approximating to a printed matter, and an image forming method using this sheet. CONSTITUTION: A thermal transfer sheet is provided with an ink layer containing 30-70wt.% fine particle pigment and 70-30wt.% amorphous organic high-molecular polymer having a softening point in the temperature range of 40-150 deg.C, ranging 0.2-1.0μm in layer thickness, and having a transmission density of 0.8 or less (or through a photothermal conversion layer). An image-receiving sheet made of a transparent substrate film is overlapped on the ink layer of the thermal transfer sheet. On the back surface of the transfer sheet, a thermal head is pressed, or a laser light modulated by digital signals is emitted (or a laser light is emitted in an ablation method). In this manner, a transfer image formed with an area gradation is formed on the image-receiving sheet. |
