PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain double decoding without using any high speed memory constitution by decoding each bi-directional picture two times. SOLUTION: The output of a converter 26 is supplied to a buffer 28. A multiplexer supplies either the output of the buffer 28 or the output of a buffer 22 which receives a non-bi-directional picture to be displayed from a memory 10 to a display circuit 20. In this case, a selection signal BIDIR switches the multiplexer 30, and an adder 14 validates either a buffer 18 or a scanning converter 26 according to whether or not the bi-directional picture is supplied. A memory control unit 24 is re-programmed for executing a function for transferring compressed data equivalent to each directional picture to a pipe line 12 two times. Then, each bi-directional picture is decoded two times in the first time simultaneous with the direct display of a first frame and in the second time simultaneous with the direct display of a second frame in the display time of a picture. |
