PURPOSE: To industrially and inexpensively obtain and subject compound by reacting trans (±)-2-bromoidan-1-ol with an ester by using a lipase, preferentially esterifying trans (-)-2-bromoindan-1-ol, separating trans (-)-2-bromoindan-1-ol useful as an intermediate for an anti-HIV medicine from trans (+)-2- bromoindan-1-ol. CONSTITUTION: Trans form (±)-2-bromoindan-1-ol of formula I (X is H; trans- configuration racemic modification) is reacted with a compound of the formula R1 -CO-O-R2 [R1 is an (un)saturated alkyl, a (substituted) aryl or a (substitute) aralkyl; R2 is shown as R1 ] in the presence of a lipase in an organic solvent to preferentially esterify trans (-)-(1R,2R)-2-bromoidan-1-ol, converting it to an optically active trans-(-)-(1R,2R)-2-bromo-1-(acyloxy)indane of formula II and separating it from optically active trans-(+)-(1S,2S)-2-bromoindan-1-ol of formula III. |
