PURPOSE: To search and display an optimum route quickly whenever the setting of a destination is changed in traveling by searching the shortest route of up to a passage predicting intersection from the destination with the searching result of an optimum route in and around this passage predicting intersection if the destination is set, and displaying it on a road map. CONSTITUTION: A central processing unit 1 determines an intersection (passage predicting intersection), where passage is predicted at the first, from a current position detected by an azimuthal sensor 3, a car speed sensor 7 and a GPS receiver 12 via a system bus 2. In succession, this CPU 1 searches an optimum route leading to the circumferential intersection from the passage predicting intersection on the basis of the road map data of a memory storing the road map data inclusive of an intersection network. Then, this central processing unit 1, after setting the destination by an input key 8, searches the optimum route leading to the passage intersection from the destination on the basis of the searching result (of the passage predicting intersection) and the road data of the memory. A cathode-ray tube(CRT) displays the road map and the optimum route searched. |
