PURPOSE: To provide a counterlight detecting device for a camera capable of deciding counterlight by using a multiple focusing device. CONSTITUTION: The camera is provided with a multiple focusing sensor unit 51 including a pair of line sensors provided with plural photodetecting elements for receiving the light of an object and converting the light into an electrical video signal and capable of focusing different areas of the object based on a video signal group which is converted by each photodetecting element in different areas on a pair of line sensors, and a photometry sensor unit 37 capable of measuring the average luminance of the object, and also, the camera is provided with a CPU 31 for detecting the highest luminance value among each video signal detected by the multiple focusing sensor unit 51, calculating the average luminance value of the video signal in each range finding area, calculating a 1st luminance difference as a difference between the highest luminance value and the average luminance value, comparing the 1st luminance difference with a previously set 1st counterlight decision value and then deciding that the light is the counterlight when the 1st luminance difference is larger than the 1st counter light decision value. |
