PURPOSE: To improve the use rate of the direct communication mode between slave stations and to surely receive an outside line incoming call by a slave station by automatically setting and releasing the direct communication mode between slave stations without manual operation. CONSTITUTION: A slave machine PS1 transmits a transmission control signal, which includes a request of switching to the direct speech mode between slave machines, to a master machine as, ana the master machine as receives this request to transmit a control signal including the mode switching instruction to the slave machine PS1 of the originating source and a slave machine PS2 of the terminating destination, and speech modes of slave machines PS1 and PS2 are set to the direct speech mode between slave machines by switching. If a speech link in the direct speech mode between slave machines is not formed within a certain time after coming of this switching instruction or speech in the direct speech mode between slave machines is terminated, speech modes of slave machines PS1 and PS2 are switched back to the repeating speech mode between slave machines.
