Method for checking applied pressure of crimping tools

The method involves using as a test workpiece (2) a tube having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the largest workpiece which can be crimped by the crimping tool. This must require an applied pressure having a characteristic at least similar to that when crimping the largest workpiece. The test workpiece can be a pipe or section of pipe and the latter can be a scrap piece. The crimping jaws can be closed when operated so that their tips (12, 13) butt against one another, this can be monitored and the pipe can be a 3/4" pipe to DIN 2440.
