Recording operation control for VTR

The method involves controlling a VTR with a record carrier by means of a data signal contained in the television signal. During recording mode an index signal is evaluated respective to the transmission method, and/or the type of program. A change of the signal from a PAL plus transmission to a PAL-transmission and/or a change from a main program type to a different program type is detected. A first control signal indicating a start mark is written on a control track of the record carrier and/or the recording operation is interrupted. A change of the signal from a PAL transmission to a PALplus transmission and/or a change from the different program type to the main program-type is detected. A second control signal indicating an end mark is written on the control track of the record carrier and/or the recording operation commences.
