FIELD: electric engineering. SUBSTANCE: device has active part which is made from resistor elements which have non-linear voltage-current characteristic (2) and linear voltage- current characteristic (3). Active part is located in insulating cover 4 which is covered by metal flange electrodes 5. Alternation of resistor elements with linear and non-linear voltage-current characteristics. Total resistance of elements which have linear voltage-current characteristic conforms to condition that it differ not greater than one order of magnitude from total static resistance of elements which have non-linear voltage-current characteristic at maximal current which ensures temperature stability of resistor. Device may be used in design of powerful composite resistors for dampening transient electromagnetic processes which are caused by expect and emergency switches in high-voltage and very high- voltage supply lines, in particular, when circuits with low resistance are switched. This concerns capacitor batteries, idle lines, and so on. In addition device may be used for neutral switching transformers or reactors when asymmetric currents are present.
