<p>An optical pick-up uses a uniaxial crystal 42 in combination with a grating 24 to subdivide light reflected from a record-bearing medium. The crystal 42 separates the light into an ordinary ray and an extraordinary ray and the grating splits each of these into o order, + primary and - primary rays for detection by detector 45. The uniaxial crystal 42 is adhered to an isotropic crystal by a polarization film.</p> |
