PURPOSE: To provide a multicolor light emitting device whose light emitting service life is long and characteristic of an angle of visibility is enhanced and which is excellent in manufacturing efficiency by arranging a transparent insulating inorganic oxide layer having a prescribed thickness between phosphor layers and an opposed organic EL element. CONSTITUTION: A red color converting phosphor layer 3R and a green color converting phosphor layer 3G are arranged on a transparent support substrate 2, and a transparent insulating inorganic oxide layer 4 having a thickness of 0.01 to 200μm is arranged between these phosphor layers 3R and 3G or the like and an organic EL element 1 composed of an opposed transparent electrode 1a, an organic substance 1b, an electrode 1c or the like. In this constitution, the degradation of the element 1 due to gases such as stream, oxygen and a monomer finely adsorbed to or contained in this layer when the layer 4 is formed of an organic substance layer can be prevented, and a multicolor light emitting device whose light emitting service life is long and characteristic of an angle of visibility is enhanced and which can be efficiently manufactured, can be provided.
