The invention provides a thermoplastic resin fiber which forms no dioxin-related compound when oxidized or burned, and is excellent in flame retardancy even when the content of a flame retardant is low. This flame-retardant fiber contains 5 to 15% by weight of a flame retardant having the following general formula (1): (1) where R1 to R5 and R'1 to R'5 are independently Br or Cl with the Br/Cl ratio lying in the range of +E,fra 100/0+EE to +E,fra 40/60,+EE and n is an integer of 2 to 16, and 2 to 8% by weight of antimony oxide as a flame retardant promoter.
