FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: crystallizer 1 has casing made from aluminum alloy and having working surface covered with protective coat made in the form of alternating layers 2 of titanium and layers 3 of titanium nitride. Crystallizer 1 is positioned on casting machine. In the process of contact between melt surface 4 and casing coat ingot 5 is formed. Prior to applying coat, crystallizer working surface is subjected to polishing to obtain coat roughness not exceeding 0.63 micron without additional polishing operation. EFFECT: increased strength of crystallizer and improved quality of ingots. 1 dwg
