A rubberised tyre ply has non-metallic cord reinforcement (1). It is used in tyres, esp. for carcasses and belt bracing plies. The cord consists of twisted threads (2, 3), made in their turn, of twisted monofilaments. In the novel construction, the threads used, are of commercially-available titre. The cord has at least two threads (2, 3) of differing titre, twisted together. Also claimed is the procedure to make the ply, the essential principle being, that the difference in twist between thinner and thicker threads, increases the stiffness of the thinner thread, to approximately that of the thicker.
