ZIRCONIA-BASED COMPOSITE CERAMIC SINTERED COMPACT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide a zirconia-based composite ceramic sintered compact having high strength and high toughness and its production. CONSTITUTION: In this zirconia-based composite ceramic sintered compact in which. Al2 O3 particles of <=2μm average particle diameter are dispersed as a 2nd phase in partially stabilized zirconia of <=5μm average grain size contg. 8-12mol% CeO2 and 0.05-4mol% TiO2 , the Al2 O3 content of this sintered compact is 0.5-50vol.% and the amt. of fine Al2 O3 particles of <=1μm average particle diameter existing in the partially stabilized zirconia grains is >=2 number% of the total amt. of the Al2 O3 . A mixture of a 1st component forming partially stabilized zirconia contg. 8-12mol% CeO2 and 0.05-4mol% TiO2 with 0.5-50vol.% 2nd component forming Al2 O3 is sintered in the air.
