BLUE MUSSEL ADHESIVE PROTEIN GENE

摘要

PURPOSE: To obtain a new gene coding for a blue mussel adhesive protein having a specific amino acid sequence and useful e.g. for the production of a protein useful e.g. as a raw material for an adhesive exhibiting strong adhesive force and developing effective adhesive strength even in wet environment or in water. CONSTITUTION: This new blue mussel adhesive protein gene codes for a blue mussel adhesive protein having the amino acid sequences expressed by formula I and formula II or amino acid sequences essentially the same as those expressed by formula I and formula II and is expected to be useful in a wide application range as a raw material for adhesives developing effective adhesive strength even by starting the bonding work under moist condition or in water. The gene can be produced by extracting an mRNA from the foot of a blue mussel by conventional method, synthesizing a cDNA by using the mRNA as a template and amplifying and cloning the cDNA by PCR method using a primer composed of a part of the adhesive protein gene.
