PURPOSE: To provide an excellent ink jet recording sheet having high gloss and rapid ink drying properties and good in the reproducibility of an ink image and film properties. CONSTITUTION: In an ink jet recording sheet wherein an ink receiving layer is provided on at least one surface of base paper, the base paper is a multilayered papermaking raw paper and the ink receiving layer pref. contains cation modified aspeherical colloidal silica and a coating layer of a resin compsn. is provided between the base paper and the ink receiving layer.
