PURPOSE: To fix the density output of the whole of an image by copying the image after independently controlling a maximum reference density and a halftone reference density of toner. CONSTITUTION: A control part 20 detects the toner quantity of a pattern for maximum density detection, which is formed on the surface of a photosensitive drum 1, by a density sensor 15. Next, the control part 20 refers to a correction table 21 to control the rotational frequency of a developing sleeve 13 of a developing device 10 so as to give the most suitable maximum reference density corresponding to the detected toner quantity. When a pattern for halftone density detection formed on the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 is detected by the sensor 15, the control part 21 refers to the table 21 to control the laser driving output of a laser optical system 4 so as to give the most suitable halftone reference density corresponding to the detected toner quantity. The maximum quantity of stuck toner and the toner quantity stuck to a halftone density part are controlled together in this manner to fix the density of the whole of the image. |
