PURPOSE: To protect a compressor by interrupting the operation of the compressor by judging an insufficient refrigerant in a freezing cycle of an air conditioner based upon a temperature difference between those at an inlet side and an intermediate part of the indoor heat exchanger during heating operation. CONSTITUTION: In an air conditioner having a freezing cycle composed of a compressor 1, a four-way valve 2, an indoor heat exchanger 3, throttling means 4, and an outdoor heat exchanger 5, inlet temperature of the indoor heat exchanger 3 and intermediate temperature upon heating operation are detected, and it is judged that a refrigerant of the freezing cycle is insufficient, if a temperature difference therebetween is a certain value or larger and it continues for a predetermined time, and the operation of the compressor 1 is interrupted whereby the compressor 1 is protected from abnormal operation due to insufficient refrigerant. |
