An electrical and/or optical device mounted below the steering wheel on to the steering column is a two-part signal transmission device surrounding the column concentrically. The fixed part is on the column and the other part moves with the wheel. A plug-connector joins functional elements in the steering wheel with the protective collar of the moving part. The plug-connector (6) pokes through the recess (7) in the wheel from one side of the base. Both plug-connector parts are assigned to mating counter-connectors joined to flexible conductors (8) from the other side of the steering wheel base to the collar and thereby to the recess.
