A variable area nozzle, eg. for a turbo jet engine, comprises a blade assembly (6) subject to control actuators (2), the bodies of which at their downstream ends are assembled by projections (2 c , 2 d ) and coupling members (4 c - 4 d ) so as to form, downstream, a first structure either polygonal or circular, and rigid. Rocking levers (16), which transmit the control forces of the piston rods (14) of the actuators (2) to the blades (6) through rods (20 a , 20 b ), are interconnected at their ends (16 c , 16 d ) so as to form, upstream, a second polygonal or circular structure providing the synchronisation of the blades (6). The invention is applicable to both convergent nozzles and convergent-divergent nozzles.
