Improved insulating modular panels (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270) are manufactured to incorporate into each insulating modular panel (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270) at least one vacuum insulation panel (102). Vacuum insulation panels (102) are conveyed seriatim toward a pultrusion die (108) which ultimately produces the insulating modular panels (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270) as a continuous block (116). Joint spacings (110, 112, 114) or gaps between adjacent vacuum insulation panels (102) and sides (120) of the vacuum panels (102) are filled with foam or preformed filler material (126, 128) to form a substantially continuous inner core (118) which has substantially continuous side edges. Reinforcement material (136, 150) is applied to the inner core (118). The reinforcement material (136, 150) can be impregnated (140, 152) with resin prior to its application to the inner core (118) or resin may be injected (154) into the pultrusion die (108). In either event, a continuous elongated block (116) of insulating modular panels (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270) emerges from the pultrusion die (108). The continuous elongated block (116) is severed at joint spacings (110, 112, 114) or gaps between adjacent vacuum insulation panels (102) to form insulating modular panels (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270) of desired sizes from the block (116). Preferably, the sides of the insulating modular panels (210, 220, 240, 260, 270) are formed to define intermating members (212, 222, 242, 262, 272) which engage one another to facilitate construction using the insulating modular panels (200, 210, 220, 240, 260, 270). |
