Varying the shape of the gap between rollers, in strip rolling mills, involves fitting the mantle rollers, as intermediate or support rollers, with two adjustable double-pistons. Local dia. changes are effected by positioning the pistons and differential changes in the oil pressure in the separate chambers, to give a dia. increase or decrease, to act on the roller gap and give the required action on the strip across its whole width.
