<p>Twohalf moulds (of e.g. a metal alloy) are secured together along a join line and the edges of the half moulds have semi-cylindrical formations which, when the half moulds are together, define an inlet to the mould. An injection nozzle is located in the inlet to introduce the resin, and subsequently a pair of jaws crush the inlet between them to seal the mould. The crushed walls of the inlet may be subsequently welded together. The moulds are used for moulding boat hulls, aeroplane parts, etc. from a foamable plastic, and the pressure during moulding can be accurately controlled to allow accurate control over the cellular structure of the moulded body.</p> |
