The process is monitored by continuous photo-electric observation of the degree of cloudiness of the culture medium and the optical path between the light source and the photo-electric detector is completely enclosed within the vat. Esp. the structural member on which they are mounted is detachable fixed in a tube mounted on one wall of the vessel and waterproof-sealed in place. Continuous accurate measurement is possible and appts. is easily sterilized.
