Process to dry and if necessary cool fine grain prods. comprises mixing the prod. feed with a portion of dryer air, the mixt. then passing into a first drying chamber where at least a part of the prods. occasionally deposits on filter elements rising into the drying chamber which are periodically cleaned. The remaining drying proceeds in a second drying chamber through which the remaining portion of the dryer air flows from the bottom up with tangential flow components through openings in the base of the second drying chamber. Also claimed is a device to carry out the above procedure having a mixing chamber (6), a first drying chamber (4) with incorporated filter elements (12) and an outlet channel (16) on the clean air side for filtered dryer air. A second drying chamber (5) has openings (18) in the base (19), devices to produce a dryer air stream and a prod. outlet (21) in the base.
