<p>Limestone powder is treated to make is perfectly wettable by hydrocarbons and lipophilic substances in general, by contacting with alkylarylsulphonic acids (I) of which the Ca salt is practically water-insol., or with a salt of (I), in an amt. of least suff. to form a mono-molecular layer over the entire surface of the particles. (I) pref. have a mol. wt. of >=326, esp. 400-600. The powder pref. has a specific surface of 5,000-30,000 cm2/g and is treated with 0.2-2 wt.% of (I), which is in soln. in pet. ether or is mixed with 1-3 times its wt. of a mineral oil with a viscosity of 5-100 cS at 37.8 degrees C. The prod. is suitable for use as a filler for paints, varnishes, rubber, synthetic elastomers and thermoplastic and thermosetting materials.</p> |
