Compound isolators of type used with suspended cables applications

The compound isolator of a type used with suspended cables has a core rod of fibre reinforced plastic around which is moulded a housing of insulating polymer material, such as silicon elastomer. The insulator form has a number of ring shaped sections (4) and this shape is created in the mould (4). Built into the ends of plastic mould impression are a pair of tension elements (11) that receive the ends of the core rod and this becomes warmed when the moulding takes place and accordingly axial expansion occurs. The elements ensure that good contact exists between the moulding and the core.
