PURPOSE: To provide a water jet type outboard motor which is small and whose center of gravity is low and which can be installed in the rear of a transom plate. CONSTITUTION: An outboard motor 100 is installed on a transom plate 7 so that the whole of an outboard motor main body 130 is positioned in the rear of the transom plate 7 of the hull 6. In the outboard motor main body 130, a length in the horizontal direction (the lateral direction of the hull 6) is longer than a length in the vertical direction (the longitudinal direction of the hull 6). An engine is horizontally placed to the hull 6 in the outboard motor main body 130. A direction nozzle 153 and a reverse gate 156 of a jet nozzle 150 are operated by a steering bar 170. Exhaust air of the engine is diffused to the atmosphere through a silencer 160. Therefore, a vertical directional length of the outboard motor main body can be shortened, and since there is no need to arrange the outboard motor main body on the transom plate, a low and compact outboard motor can be provided. |
