Improvements in a process for the manufacture of masses for the moulding of parts for construction. The process is based on the mixing of expanded polystyrene particles with a binding mass such as powdered cements, plasters, plant gums, etc., in order to yield a homogeneous mass which is suitable for the use in the manufacture of construction components, such as vaulting, beams and the like, where the resulting construction element is very light, wholly impermeable and of low cost. The improvements consist of bringing about hardening of the expanded polystyrene by the indirect provision of heat to the polystyrene itself, a higher temperature being needed the higher the density of the polystyrene.
