PURPOSE: To obtain a magneto-optical disk stably having superior characteristics by controlling the characteristics of a Pt/Co multilayered film so that a control parameter and a specified index obtd. by an evaluative equation are regulated to a specified range each. CONSTITUTION: A dielectric layer 2 and a Pt/Co multilayered film 3 are formed on a substrate 1. The film 3 is controlled so that an index P represented by the equation P=[(CD×S)/B]/(M×C) is regulated to the range of 3.0-500. In the equation, D is the diffraction peak intensity (cps) of the (111) faces of the film 3, S is the satellite peak intensity (cps), B is the background intensity (cps), M is the average ruggedness of the surface of the film 3 and C is the average size (nm) of the columnar crystals of the film 3. Even if conditions in the production of a Pt/Co multilayered film and a device for producing the film are altered, a disk having satisfactory characteristics is stably obtd. by carrying out production using the range of the index P as an index.
